  I get your reasoning, ADCMS. But you didn't grow up in the 'projects'. You aren't followed in the grocery store by security. You have no concept of growing up in a place where you CAN'T get educated, where people see you and are instantly 'afraid' because you are of a darker colour.

  Behavior trumps race when it comes to how a person is treated by others, and security personnel in particular.

  A person walking around at night in a grocery store with a hoodie drawn over his or her face is going to get followed by security regardless of race. It won't matter whether the person is black or white, or lives in the projects or Beverly Hills.

  A person who walks around dressed like a gang member is going to be watched as a potential gang member. It won't matter whether the person is black or white, or lives in the projects or Beverly Hills.

  1. In historical terms, HOW was the manner in which European settlers expanded into territory new to them any different than HOW the then occupiers expanded into the same territory?

  2. In contemporary terms, WHO exactly are the “Masters” to which you refer? Elected officials? Someone else? WHO?

  Either you have responsible answers to those questions or you don't . Which is it?

  Raphael Lemkin worked with the concept we call Cultural Genocide which the UN incorporated in its 1948 Declaration on the Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Cultural genicode can preceed physical genocide, it can also be concurrent with the physical demolition of a race or races.

  The Americas were built on Cultural Genocide and Physical Genocide. The Indigenous peoples were declared the 'Thugs' of their day which was turned into justification for forced explusion from their very homes and lands. When the 'Savages' pushed back more physical explusion, relocation, and confinement was the response. Any attempt at being free again or to reclaim their own homes and lands was met again and again by physical genocide.

  After all how dare the actual original land owners be so uppity and want Equal Rights from their new Masters.

  I was out biking recently and encountered about a 25-year-old man with a flat tire. Everyone who came along wanted to help this man. I mean everyone. All these people were complete strangers to one another. But each saw a man in need and wanted to help. Every one of these folks pitched in something in the effort.

  These folks were of all races in the area. For sure it included several blacks and several whites, but other races were there too.

  Anyone want to guess the race of the man with the flat tire?

  There's lots of good in society. Lots of it.

  Its been just 66 years since a major decision was made regarding race in this country.

  Designs, what do you have in mind that has not already been done or tried?

  Specifically what "decision" can anyone make that will change the fact that if you steal you are likely to get arrested and if you assault someone you're likely to get hurt yourself and perhaps killed if you attack someone you know has capability to kill you.

  If you have specific remedy please spit it out in a good clear and concise sentence.

  But they aren't all shot and that is picked up by our Society as a whole. Bernard Madoff wasn't shot for ripping off Billions but the teen will for a few bucks. If you live in a culture that adds some particular insults to your ethnicity, and there are other real or perceived slights to getting ahead anger and frustration grows. Madoff may even get out someday while the teen could face life in prison.

  Designs, I'm sorry but that is plain bogus. Madoff, as monstrous of a thief as he was, did not physically engage a law enforcement officer. There is such a thing as defending oneself.

  Let me ask you a question. Has it occured to you there is an alternate reason why blacks experience disproportionate interaction with law enforcement? Has it occured to you there is something in black culture that might be furthering and fueling what we see going on?

  I think Chris Rock pretty much nailed what we see happening, and when I transpose the same behavior onto other ethinicities I see the same result.

  - If you steal you are likely to get arrested and put in jail.

  - If you attack someone you're likely to face self-defense.

  - If you assault a police officer you're likely to get injured yourself, perhaps even shot.

  You can transpose whatever race you want on these things--and others like them--and each time you get the same result regardless of race.

  If you want to talk about BIG PICTURE then start talking families giving a crap about raising children so that the Michael Brown's of this world are not raised by thugs who teach them thuggary, and after that start talking about how, in this case, the black community should act to raise itself up rather than waiting for someone else to do it for them, or demanding that someone else do so.

  Missed?

  What is there to miss? A thief acts to engage an armed police officer. Right? Did I miss something?

  What is an armed police officer supposed to think when a criminal suspect engages him knowing the policeman is armed?

  Does the thief expect the policeman to think this is the thief's way of showing affection, or perhaps offing a lollipop?

  No one in their right mind would think that a fool who knowingly engages an armed adult is doing anything other than attempting an assault with intent to harm.

  So by that assertion Marvin you are saying that it should be lawful to lethally shoot at a person if your in a physical confrontation with another individual as well a cop has the legal lawful right to shoot to kill if a citizen tries to make hand to hand contact with them during an apprehension ?

  I'm saying there is a right of self-defense recognized UNDER THE LAW.

  On occasion this could include defending oneself against UNLAWFUL ASSAULT by a uniformed law enforcement officer.

  But THAT is not what's at issue in the Brown - Wilson incident that I AM DISCUSSING.

  Is the actual size of these two men really relevant ?

  Is it stated in law that if an officer is confronted by a perpetrator who is bigger in size that it is therefore

  lawful to use legally force based from an apparent size differance ?

  Each human being has a right of self-defense. Law enforcement officers qualify as human beings.

  The right to LIVE and enjoy HEALTH is a right everyone owns and those who unlawfully attempt to impinge on that right should be prepared to pay a comparable price themselves.

  Persons who attack someone for no cause other than to do harm place THEMSELF at risk and THEY are responsible for the outcome.

  The debate isn't about civility its about the proportionate actions taken toward an individual who was being uncivil.

  If a big man rushes me after demonstrating a willingness to injure me, and if I'm armed, then I'm going to do the civil thing of adding holes to the ones my attacker was born with. If I'm not armed then more than likely I'll suffer injuries and perhaps even death. I do not intend to make myself someone else's sacrificial lamb. If someone wants to injure or hurt me then they'll have to take whatever I can do in defense. If they don't want to accept my defense then the answer is simple. DON'T try and attack me. The right to LIVE is a right I own and anyone who attempts to take it away from me should be prepared to pay a comparable price themself.

  At the end of the day that is the thing to learn. If you attack someone you're placing YOURSELF at risk and YOU are responsible for the outcome.
